Where is Pollonia, Milos?
Pollonia is a quiet fishing village on the northeast coast of Milos, in the Cyclades. It's built around a calm, sheltered bay, with restaurants, shops, and the village beach all within a few hundred metres. LAVEA sits right in the centre - two minutes' walk from all of it.
How do I get to Pollonia?
Fly to Milos Airport (MLO) from Athens - about 13 km from Pollonia, a 20-minute drive - or take the ferry from Piraeus to Adamas port, then a 15-minute drive. There are no direct international flights to Milos; travellers from the US, UK, Australia, France, Brazil, and elsewhere all connect via Athens.
How far is LAVEA from the beach, restaurants, and shops?
Two minutes on foot to all three. Pollonia Beach, the village's restaurants, and its shopping area all sit along the same short waterfront - close enough to walk to dinner, private enough that you won't hear the village from your suite. One of the island's best beach bars (Hitana) is also located a few minutes away.
What are the best restaurants in Pollonia?
All within a two-minute walk of LAVEA: Gialos for upscale traditional Mediterranean dining on the waterfront, Apollonio Grill House for excellent traditional Greek gyro and souvlaki, and Jordan's Pizza House for wood-fired oven pizzas.
Where can I shop in Pollonia?
Pollonia's small shopping area is two minutes from LAVEA. Vanilla Gold is the standout - high-end Greek designer fashion and accessories for men and women. You'll also find artisan jewellery, beach-and-swim shops, small supermarkets, and a bakery or two.
What are the best beaches near Pollonia?
Pollonia Beach is a two-minute walk - calm, shallow, and sheltered. Hitana beach bar features great drinks and sun loungers together with an amazing shallow beach. Papafragas, with its sea caves and white cliffs, is a five-minute drive. Sarakiniko, the famous white volcanic "moon beach," is about ten minutes by car. Klima and Plaka are around 25 minutes for the sunset.
Can I take a day trip to Kimolos?
Yes - a local ferry runs from Pollonia's pier to Kimolos several times a day in summer, a 30-minute crossing. Kimolos is quieter still, with uncrowded beaches and one main village. Check the current schedule before you go, as weather can affect sailings.
